A Forbes article in 2012 had this unusual title: “The Dancing Violinist – How Lindsey Stirling is Conquering YouTube One Video at a Time”. The article then went on to explain the unique talents depicted in the streaming videos posted by musician Lindsey Stirling, saying she “plays violin while dancing in outlandish costumes on YouTube. And it’s great.”

“Great” is not exactly the critique she has received from everyone who has heard her perform, including judge Piers Morgan from America’s Got Talent. Describing her as sounding like “drowned rats being strangled”, he expressed an opinion that few agree with. However, many also say it is the blend of Stirling’s unique style and the world of online media that has helped to make her a hit.

Where It Began

Born September 21, 1986, she began to study classical violin at the age of five. By her teens, she had joined a rock band named Stomp on Melvin and won the Junior Miss competition for her home state of Arizona.

The financial limitations at home, however, limited Stirling to a single 15-minute violin lesson each week, and no dance lessons at all.
