When Jennifer Hudson first came on the scene, she blew fans away with her incredible voice and acting skills in the hit movie Dreamgirls. At the time, though, she was also known for being somewhat overweight, and no one would ever have thought that she’d make the dramatic change we’ve seen her make. So how did Ms. Hudson go from plus-sized to svelte?
A Sensible Diet With Support and Accountability
To get her weight loss journey underway, Hudson didn’t do anything crazy or drastic, and she didn’t hire a personal chef to figure out her diet, either. Instead, she did what a lot of women all over the US have been doing for years – she joined Weight Watchers.
Basically, by stating her weight loss goals and then keeping a journal of her food every day, she was able to start tracking her diet. For support and accountability, the program allowed Hudson and other members to share their successes, temptations, and even their dietary failures with other members and buddies over social media and through email. Basically, Jennifer had a whole network of other dieters to support her and help her stay accountable so that she could continue to stay motivated and on-track.
Jennifer didn’t have to kick all of her favorite foods to the curb, either. With this program, she was able to learn to eat moderate amounts of different foods and only indulge a little bit in high-calorie items like ice cream and chocolate. For the most part, her diet consisted of eating nutritious foods that would keep her feeling full longer, including chicken, grilled fish, vegetables, and fruits. She also cut way back on pre-packaged foods and started cooking for herself, too.
A Workable Workout Routine to Drop the Baby Fat
Jennifer accomplished her initial weight loss almost entirely through making healthy changes to her diet. She didn’t actually incorporate exercise and a regular workout regimen until after she had her son in 2009. Then, to drop the baby weight, she found that she had to do a little bit more than just eating right.
Again, Jennifer found a great way to incorporate moderation and sensibility into her life to see the results she wanted. Instead of doing one long workout at the gym every day, Ms. Hudson squeezes five shorter workouts in throughout the day. These workouts only take 10 minutes each, but they add up to almost an hour of movement and calorie-burning time each day.
So what did she do to drop 80 pounds and keep it off? Every day, Jennifer does 25 minutes of cardio and 25 minutes of interval training. And, if she’s not feeling like a workout, she finds something active to do with friends so that she’s still getting her exercise, even when she’s not feeling super motivated.
While she does have a personal trainer who helped her work this routine out, Hudson didn’t do anything that any normal woman couldn’t do. Without starving herself or going under the knife, she’s seen real success and continues to look amazing.
