We may think of Heidi Klum as a model and reality television star, but the fact of the matter is that she is also a mother, a business professional, and someone who did not actually land her “dream” job. Born on June 1, 1973 in the city of Bergisch-Gladbach in Germany, Klum was already relocated to the United States by the time she reached her 18th birthday.

A natural model, she is not actually runway thin. Curvaceous and fit, she quickly won the attention of lingerie firm Victoria’s Secret upon arrival in New York, and by 1998 she was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, where she graced their famous “swimsuit edition”. Over the course of her modeling career she appeared on all of the major magazine covers, including Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, but her career seemed to skyrocket once she began to take on acting and reality TV performances.

Project Runway

Though recognizable to millions for her modeling and runway work, she became a true household name in 2004 with the premier of Project Runway. This competitive, reality TV series was actually something Klum helped to create along with Eli Holtzman, and it has since won many awards for its quality and technical excellence. Moving from the Bravo network to Lifetime, it renewed for several more years in 2016, bringing it close to 20 full seasons!

The world of reality TV seemed to be the perfect fit for Klum, and since beginning Project Runway, she has also appeared as host on Germany’s Next Top Model and as a judge on America’s Got Talent.

Personal Life

Though always smiling and cheerful for the cameras, her personal life has had its share of highs and lows. Married to stylist Ric Pipino in 1997, they divorced in 2002. Shortly after that, she began a relationship with racing professional Flavio Briatore, though the couple split soon after Klum announced she was pregnant. She then began a lengthy relationhip with singer Seal, and they married in 2005. Sadly, they separated after seven years, and divorced in 2015. Since that time, her love life has been a tabloid focus as she dated her bodyguard and then began dating art dealer Vito Schnabel. She has four children, with her first-born being adopted by Seal.
