Your Guide to the Most Interesting New Characters on Game of Thrones for Season Six
A lot has been going on with “Game of Thrones” in season six! We’re getting to the point that the show is moving faster than the books, and HBO is relying on George RR Martin to tell their writers what happens next. So, for the first time, fans who’ve read the books and fans who haven’t are both in the dark about what happens next.
With so much going on as we follow several plots and schemes throughout the show, it can be easy to lose track of different characters, especially new ones. So who’s joined the cast for season six? Who are their characters? And what are they doing? Here’s your guide to the latest additions to your favorite HBO show!
Max von Sydow Joins as the Three-Eyed Raven
Nominated for Oscars for two roles, you’ll remember von Sydow from his roles in films like “Shutter Island” and “Minority Report”. In “Game of Thrones”, he’s the Three-Eyed Raven from Bran’s dreams. The character isn’t new, but von Sydow is replacing Struan Rodger who played him in season four.
Richard E. Grant as Izembaro
Fans of British comedies from the ‘80s and ‘90s will immediately recognize Grant, but so will fans of HBO’s “Girls” and “Downton Abbey”. This season, he plays Izembaro, the lead actor in a group performing a play titled “The Bloody Hand”.
Essie Davis as Cersei in “The Bloody Hand”
Another of the players in “The Bloody Hand” portrays Cersei. Actress Essie Davis recently gained fame for her role in the wildly popular horror film “The Babadook”.
James Faulkner as Randyll Tarly
Samwell Tarly’s father shows up in season six, played by James Faulkner. You may remember him as the creepy and kind of pervy uncle from “Bridget Jones’ Diary”.
Melanie Liburd as High Priestess Kinvara
Think that Melisandre’s the only woman in red on “Game of Thrones”? Think again! There’s another High Priestess coming to town, and she’ll be played by the gorgeous Melanie Liburd, known for her roles in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “Dracula”.
Joe Naufahu as Khal Moro
Those who’ve been missing Khal Drogo might have a new favorite character in season six. Played by Joe Naufahu – who will appear in the upcoming “Ghost in the Shell” live action movie – Khal Moro was mentioned in one of the previous “Game of Thrones” books, but he hasn’t had a big role until now, when he’ll be an ally to everyone’s favorite Mother of Dragons.
Of course, there are other new characters popping up on “Game of Thrones” this season, and we’re sure to see a lot of big upsets that will surprise even the most intense fans of the books and the show (“Shut the door”, anyone?). This guide should help you keep track of some of the most interesting and fierce characters who’ll be introduced this season, though. Have fun watching them as they race to see who will claim the throne!
