Wayward Pines: What To Expect From Season Two

After much anticipation, novel-based television series, Wayward Pines, has finally set an official date for the season two premiere. This psychological thriller is based on the best-selling novel trilogy, “Pines”, written by Blake Crouch.

The original series came to television in summer 2015, and was a large success. Fox reports it was the number one broadcast scripted series of the summer for adults 18-49. “We were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that Night and his team created, and the twisting-and-turning storytelling that drew viewers in from day one,” said David Madden of Fox Broadcasting Company.

After a shocking end to the events from season one, Cinema Blend proclaims, “Audiences were left to wonder whether or not we might get more of the drama in the future”. Fox offers some teasing insights on the season two plot: “The second season will pick up in the wake of Season One, when a new arrival in Wayward Pines finds himself in the middle of a serious rebellion, as the residents battle over how to preserve the endangered human race.”

According to The Week, the return for a second season is unexpected, and the next chapter of Wayward Pines “takes on the challenge of picking up after last year’s characteristically oddball ending”. In efforts to make the coming season a comparable success, the story will need similar twists and turns to engage the audience just as they did last summer. According to The Week, Wayward Pines will “introduce several new protagonists, including a historian played by Djimon Honsou.”

What we know so far about season two:

The Abbies:

Season two will explore “the Abbies” in more detail. TV Guide gives us a first look about what to expect. “We will be getting to know more about ‘the Abbies’, who are now both inside and outside of the town’s perimeter.”

The novel series offers far more information about the nature of the Abbies: “They’re far more intelligent than the great apes and exponentially more aggressive,” says Pincher in the novel. “We’ve captured a handful over the years. Studied them. Tried to establish communication, but it’s all failed. Their speed and strength is more in line with your average Neanderthal man. At sixty pounds, they’re lethal, and some of them grow to two hundred. … It’s sobering when you realize we aren’t at the top of the food chain anymore. Occasionally, an Abby will get through [the fence], but we keep the outskirts of town on motion sensors and the entire valley under sniper surveillance, day and night.”

The Cast:

Critics and audiences do not know what to expect after the shocking kill-off of leading character Matt Dillon in season one. However, TV Guide insights ensure the character casting remains strong: “Jason Patric and Djimon Hounsou join the cast. “Patrick’s character, Dr. Theo Yedlin, remains mysterious, but Hounsou describes his character, C.J. Mitchum, as someone who knows everything about the town. Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon, and Hope Davis will all return.”
