Talking about the million dollar quartet, it brings into real life, the ideal definition of an impromptu recording session that came out perfect. The unexpected Jam session had Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis doing what they know best.

Zachary Stevenson Interview 3

Although rock and roll music was in its early age, these talented artists had to put up a remarkable number of tracks. Few years after recording the Million Dollar Quartet, the full version was compiled and produced – The Complete Million Dollar session.

In an interview with the musical director, Zachary Stevenson, he detailed how the whole thing came about. Stevenson pointed out that the jam session wasn’t planned, but turned out to be a great deal. Perkins walked into the studio with his brothers to record some new versions to some already known blues, the owner of Sun Recording studio; Sam Philips called on his new protégé, Jerry Lee Lewis to jump on the keys. At the same time, Elvis Presley, a former artist with Sun Records walked in to pay a casual visit; he listened to Perkins session after chatting with his Ex-boss and headed for the studio. After a short while, the jam began, and Johnny Cash entered. Wham! The full hit kicked off.

The impromptu session featured these four artists doing gospel songs which they know how to do best. In fact, this session remains one of the best-unexpected jams that turned out to be a hit. The million dollar quartet is a session to behold.

Zachary Stevenson pointed out in an interview that the jam session was an unexpected one. The director expressed his view of the whole thing. “The show took place at Memphis Tennesse at Sun studios, and it was inspired by real events, December 4th, 1956 where Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley were all in the studio at the same time. It only happened once in history, although they all recorded individually. It was Impromptu, unexpected, talking about music, singing gospel songs they were all familiar with, harmonizing jam together and … it was a pretty special moment in eh…rock and roll history.”

Speaking of the talented artists and how they came up with something nice, Stevenson said “We really hope to capture an authentic portrayal of the music. This was an era where rock and roll were being established; it was easy to forget that because we weren’t very familiar with a lot of these songs. These songs were just coming into being and being born, fusing the rhythm and blues in the country, the western swings and all these style and kinds of creating all these rock…and roll. Haha! It wasn’t familiar before as at that time. I mean this is only 1956, and this is really the beginning and birth of something special.”

He further said this “I charge people to stay and see it; it’s gonna be bass or something I think. I mean it’s a million dollar. And with inflation, it’s like a billion dollar quartet. So, hahaha, it’s gonna be a great experience for the aliens, for the players, and it’s just gonna be a flip back side of energy, and no doubt!

Bill Millerd directed the million dollar quartet, and the musical director, Zachary Stevenson also did a great job. Other names in the production list include Valerie Easton, Barbara Clayden, Caryn Fehr, Gerald King, Ted Roberts and others.

Oh Baby, Baby – Britney is Back! https://pikastar.com/oh-baby-baby-britney-is-back/ https://pikastar.com/oh-baby-baby-britney-is-back/#respond Thu, 04 Aug 2016 21:39:33 +0000 https://pikastar.com/?p=6740 Britney Spears New Album Glory

Our long wait for the next Britney Spears album is finally coming to a close with the release of the highly anticipated Glory on August 26th. The news comes on the heels of the 34-year-old releasing her single “Make Me,” which features rapper G-Eazy. The upcoming album will feature sexy summer tunes like we’re used to hearing from the pop star, including her single, “Private Show” which you can get your hands on today if you pre-order the upcoming album. The world was treated to a preview of the single in July and it only made us all the more excited for what Britney has in the works.

Britney promised a new era with her ninth studio album, Glory when she announced the drop date on her twitter account saying, “#Glory. My new album & the beginning of a new era. Available 8/26 on @AppleMusic.” And while we can take her word for a new sound, we’re also sure the playlist will consist of women empowerment tunes like only she can produce.

Spears’ manager, Larry Rudolph, says that fans can expect Glory to sound like “The Weeknd” with a different and interesting vibe. With songwriters for the album including talents such as Ian Kirkpatrick, Simon Wilcox, and Chantal Kreviazuk, we can only imagine the music magic they made!

The press tour for Glory got off to a hilarious start when Britney appeared on Jimmy Kimmel. The star surprised the late-night host with a midnight performance of “Private Show” complete with backup dancers and a light show. All of this delivered in Kimmel’s bed by a scantily-clad Spears much to the delight of viewers.

When she’s not pranking talk show hosts, Spears has been keeping busy lately with her Las Vegas residency, Piece of Me, but has somehow found the time to produce the album which is sure to be full of future hits. The Las Vegas show is just one part of her epic comeback after suffering from a very public meltdown in 2007 that sent her career into a hiatus. Since then she has been placed under a conservatorship but has maintained custody of her two sons.

Obviously, getting back to work has helped her mental state of mind as Britney has said that performing is her therapy and that it gives her confidence. We have to say, confidence looks good on the Queen of Pop. She’s never looked better or more toned. Fans will be able to witness her transformation in her soon-to-be-released music video for “Make Me.”

If all of the teasers and two singles are proof of what’s to come in Glory, we absolutely cannot wait to get our hands on it later this month but remember, you’ll only find it at Apple Music. We have a feeling that it will be more than worth the wait since Britney Jean was released in 2013. One thing is for sure, though, Britney’s definitely back and here to stay!

Why Are Some Artists Enforcing No Cell Phone Policy at Concerts? https://pikastar.com/why-are-some-artists-enforcing-no-cell-phone-policy-at-concerts/ https://pikastar.com/why-are-some-artists-enforcing-no-cell-phone-policy-at-concerts/#respond Thu, 30 Jun 2016 17:49:10 +0000 https://pikastar.com/?p=6257 Cell phone policy at concerts rules

Piracy, bootlegging…these are old-school terms for the days when some daring fool would enter a concert venue with recording equipment hidden on them. They would then record the concert and make many copies of the tapes to sell through illegal channels (such as record shops – do you remember those?).

Today, a lot of tiny little mobile devices offer us sophisticated recording systems, and even advanced video capabilities. This is why some artists have started to enforce a no cell phone policy at their concerts. Interestingly enough, there are still some bands that encourage people to make recordings (Phish and Pearl Jam are two) and share them freely.

So, it is it only that artists fear piracy or bootlegging and the loss of revenue that this would cause? No. There is also the vanity issue.

Team Beyoncé and Beyond

A Digital Trends article dating all of the way back to 2013 showed a photograph that was seen by “Team Beyoncé” after it was taken by a cell phone user at one of her shows. The image is…well…unflattering to say the least, and her team wanted any similar future shots to be impossible.

The explanation given by Beyoncé, along with a list of other artists instituting similar bans was this: “They argue that it takes away the enjoyment of being at a live performance, as well as being a nuisance to the performers and other concertgoers.”

Maybe you have seen the recent footage of Adele requesting someone in the crowd put down the phone, but we’ve also seen non-musical stars shame people for the use of mobile devices. Jennifer Lawrence earned unfavorable publicity when she shamed a reporter who was busy using his device during an interview (only to discover her harassment was unwarranted because the journalist was trying to translate a question to ask her!)

So, why do people like the late Prince, Alicia Keys, She & Him and so many others request or flat out deny the cameras.

Most hold fast to the desire for everyone to enjoy the show in real time, appreciate the efforts that artists and their teams have made to create on-stage spectacles, and as the band the Savages stated:

Our goal is to discover better ways of living and experiencing music. We believe that the use of phones to film and take pictures during a gig prevents all of us from totally immersing ourselves. Let’s make this evening special. Silence your phones.

And if you do show up with a phone? Some venues have unusual lockable bags that prevent you from using the device during the show. You are given the bag and you are watched as you drop it into the pouch. Then, after the show, you can have it unlocked.

While you might be convinced it is all about the money, there are many who insist it is not. Instead, many bands believe that they need to combat concertgoers who:
opt to watch their concerts through their mobile viewfinders, dividing fans into two camps: those who believe the over-prevalence of phones at shows is ruining the communal live music experience for everyone, and those who think, as paying customers, they should have the right to watch the show any way they see fit.

The argument is not going away soon, but for now, you should know that many stars are forbidding the devices, and you may want to just leave them at home and enjoy the show.

Dr Dre and snoop Dog Performing Coachella Music and Arts Festival

Dr. Dre, the iconic rap artist responsible for quintessential American hip-hop acts such as NWA, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem, released his long-awaited latest a day earlier than expected. Utilizing Apple Music’s streaming service, Dr. Dre’s “Compton”, which serves as the musical soundtrack to the upcoming bio-pic, “Straight Outta Compton” depicting the rise and fall of Dre’s first claim to fame NWA, marks only the third official solo album from the otherwise prolific rapper, producer and entrepreneur from Los Angeles.

According to the New York Times, Dr. Dre, 50, has waited 16 years to release his first album since 1999’s “2001”, which included such hits as “Still D.R.E.”, “The Next Episode,” and “Forgot about Dre”.

Rolling Stone reports that Dr. Dre will be donating “all of his artist royalties” to help build a performing arts and entertainment center in Compton.

“Straight Outta Compton” the movie portraying the lives of NWA members Dr. Dre, Eazy E, DJ Yella, MC Ren and Ice Cube, hits theaters August 14th. It currently maintains a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

With early positive reviews surrounding the film and guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Eminem, “Compton” will surely be a record people talk about.
